Description
Product Description
If you had your way, you wouldn t wait for a thing. Why, you d play baseball all the time. You d play it for lunch, dinner, even for breakfast. The words burned in Jimmy s heart. Mom s right. If I were in charge, I d make sure I d never have to wait for another thing ever again. For every kid who has wondered, Why do I have to wait? here s a humorous story that shows why every moment of life is important. After Jimmy rearranges time to suit himself, he learns that God has a plan for our lives that includes the good times as well as the bad times & the in-between times. When we avoid certain times in our life, when we refuse to live each moment, we may end up destroying all of life s moments, including the good ones. Juvenile audiences (ages 10-14).
Review
[Grades 1-3.]
Always impatient, Jimmy dreams that he finds a magic watch that enables him to skip ahead through time. He discovers that he can be at baseball practice instead of sitting through a whole day at school-it can even be his turn at bat. He goes on to skip meals he doesn't like, haircuts, shopping for clothes, bathing, and studying. In the end, though, he realizes that when he avoids "the bad and in-between times of life," he is disobeying God's plan, and that to live fully one must experience bad times, as well as good. The maudlin illustrations complement the didactic tone of the text.
--Sally R. Dow, Ossining Public Library, NY --School Library Journal
