Booklooky provides content ratings and age recommendations for children's and young adult books through the Looky Rating System (LRS). Our Service analyzes books across content intensity categories and story-theme indicators using AI technology and, for publisher-authorized submissions, full-text transcript analysis to help families make informed reading choices.

Intended Use: LRS ratings are informational and are intended to help individual families and readers make their own reading choices. They are not a judgment of a book's quality or worth, and they may not be used as the sole basis for institutional purchasing decisions or for removing books from schools, libraries, or other collections.

The Service is provided free of charge for personal, educational, and non-commercial use.

You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Use the Service in any way that violates any applicable laws or regulations
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any portion of the Service or any systems or networks
• Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service without express permission
• Transmit any viruses, malware, or other harmful code
• Impersonate or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers or networks connected to the Service
• Use the Service for any commercial purpose without our express written consent

Opinions, Not Guarantees: LRS ratings and age recommendations are opinions based on the information available at the time of analysis (such as publisher descriptions, categories, metadata, or an authorized full-text transcript). They are provided for informational purposes only, are not guarantees of accuracy or completeness, and should not be solely relied upon when making decisions about book appropriateness or institutional collection policies.

No Guarantee of Accuracy: While we strive to provide useful content ratings, our AI-powered analysis may not be perfect. AI catalog ratings are estimates and are not verified against the full text unless labeled as an official full-text LRS scan.

Parental Discretion: Parents and guardians should exercise their own judgment when selecting books for children. What is appropriate varies by family, culture, and individual child maturity.

Third-Party Content: Book information is obtained from third-party sources including Google Books API. We are not responsible for the accuracy of this third-party data.

Not Professional Advice: Our Service does not provide professional advice regarding child development, education, or mental health. Consult qualified professionals for such guidance. See our How LRS Ratings Work page for how ratings are produced and how corrections are handled.

Payment Does Not Buy Outcomes: Publishers and authors may pay for official full-text transcript processing and related deliverables. Payment is for the scan service — not for a target score or favorable rating. Billing and rating review are handled separately.

Corrections: Users may suggest corrections to ratings through the Service. Corrections are reviewed against our published rubric without regard to whether a publisher paid for an official scan.

Our Content: The Service, including its original content, features, functionality, the Looky Rating System (LRS), and related branding are owned by Booklooky and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

Book Content: Book covers, descriptions, and related metadata are the property of their respective publishers and authors. We display this information under fair use for informational purposes.

License to Use: We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Service for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, or create derivative works without our express written permission.

When you submit books for analysis or provide feedback, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, and display that information for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

You represent and warrant that you have the right to submit any content you provide and that such content does not violate any third-party rights or applicable laws.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part thereof) at any time without notice. We will not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuance of the Service.

We do not guarantee that the Service will be available at all times or that it will be error-free or secure.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS OR REVENUES, WHETHER INCURRED DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES RESULTING FROM:

• Your use or inability to use the Service
• Any content obtained from the Service
• Unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data
• Decisions made based on content ratings provided by the Service

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Booklooky, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

We may terminate or suspend your access to the Service immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including breach of these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the Service will immediately cease.

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved in the courts of appropriate jurisdiction.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by posting the new Terms on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after such modifications constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
