Description

After the territorial expansion of the country in 1918, Romanian political and cultural elites saw the forging of a unified and uniform Romanian nation as their primary task. In pursuing this task, they promoted the peasants, whom they considered to be authentic Romanians, while the Jews were regarded as the antithesis of Romanianness.
