Alabama school and library book laws
Alabama’s public-library rules are administrative (state aid), not a school-library rating statute.
Alabama does not have a Texas SB 13–style school-library statute. The main statewide pressure on collections is administrative: Alabama Public Library Service (APLS) state-aid conditions adopted in 2024 require public libraries to keep minors from sexually explicit or other material the board deems inappropriate, including adult-section checkout limits on minor cards. Implementation continued into 2026. Criminalization bills such as 2025 HB 4 did not become law.
