Nebraska school and library book laws
Nebraska LB 390 requires a public, building-level catalog of school-library books and checkout notifications for parents.
Nebraska LB 390 (enacted April 14, 2025) applies to school libraries on district property — not public libraries. Districts must provide a public, building-level catalog of all school-library books. Parents and guardians must be able to get checkout notifications (title, author, return date) by website, app, or email. Policies are due by the 2026–27 school year. Content ratings are optional add-ons, not required.
